Reader Question - Did You Go To The Shop On Monday?

Monday was the first time, to my knowledge, that a comic book was given a special release date outside of the Wednesday (Thursday when there's a holiday) shipping schedule. Marvel did everything in their power to make people aware of the special release of Captain America #600 and they had promised mainstream media coverage and that something as big as the death of Captain America would occur in the book.

Well, Monday has come and gone and everyone is talking about what happened in Captain America #600, but what I want to ask you today is did you even go to your local comic shop on Monday? Was it because of all the hype? Seeing news stories on various mainstream media? If you did not go, why not? Heard the news about what supposedly occurs in the issue and were turned off? Don't read Captain America? Finally, just let me know what you think about comics being released on special days like this, would you like to see it again, if you think it's good for the industry and anything else you can think of.

Sorry for the double posting. My store did not get in Cap #600 on Monday for some reason. I would have liked to have picked it up on Monday had I the chance to do so. As far as pushing around release dates, I think it's okay for bigger release books, like Final Crisis or Secret Invasion, but for the most part, keep books on Wednesdays.

Nope, I'm not a regular Cap reader. And I'm glad I waited, since I read a review that it's not worth all the hype.

I went on Monday, but not for Cap. My shop was having a huge backissue sale so I stocked up on old Doctor Strange books. I completely forgot Cap #600 was coming out that day.

I would have gone out of my way to buy the comic on Monday if it were available, but none of the shops in my area opted for the Monday release. I'm a huge Cap fan so I'm more than a bit dissapointed at how Marvel has executed this stunt.

My LCS's in my area were closed on Monday! So there was no way for me to get it if I wanted to.

I did indeed. After the "Barack Obama" issue debacle I had with Amazing Spider-man (I had to wait for a while.) I went on Monday to get my copy. It wasn't really out of my way so it wasn't a big deal.

I went in on Monday but not because of Cap 600. My store had a pretty huge sale so I got some back issues I've been wanting.

The biggest reason I'm hearing that most shops did not get the issue on Monday is that they did not want to pay the extra shipping cost and just waited until to get it today with the rest of weeks shipment. Also when Marvel announced the Monday release it only gave shops one day to place more orders before the cut off date and it was on a Wednesday.

i went cause it was something different than the normal wednesday pick up. i thought it might be fun to see what the turn out was like. ended up that the turn out was low and the issue wasn't something i had to read that day. but i got in some quality time hanging out with my retailer so it was all worth it.

I'm hoping to get it in a few days, purely for the Rikki Barnes content (same reason I'm picking up Reborn)

My shop may or not have had it (midtowncomics in NYC so I lean towards "had it") but I didn't go. I don't read Cap but will eventually do it in trades. If it was a book I love with a special release date, say a GL, Hellboy, etc., I would only go on that date if my store couldn't reserve on for me. It's already my entire lunch hour every Wednesday devoted to heading up to Midtown. I would HATE having to go multiple times a week.

Nope -- I'm a big fan of Bru's Cap, but neither LCS where I shop regularly is open on Mondays. I'll pick it up tomorrow when I get my subs.

My shop is closed on Mondays and they weren't opening for this. As the manager put it when someone asked if they would be doing anything special for the Monday release : "Yes, we will be more closed than ever before!"

So, since I´m from Germany, and my Shop only get´s a delivery every 14 days, you are all lucky guys, instead of me, because I have to wait till the 27 of these month, to get my next share of comics! ;())

I stopped by my LCS, for a different reason, but they didn't have it. Not surprising, considering that I always get my comics a couple of days late here in Europe. But he hadn't paid for the extra shipping, he's just going to get it with the normal shipping.

Marvel should have worked out some kind of deal, offering discount or free shipping for shops that ordered a certain amount of issues of Cap. I think that would have made more shops order it for Monday.

Let's face it...Marvel fubbed this up....I loved the issue but the hype was too much and they handicapped if not, outright jobbed Comic Book Shops here....

And I waited til today...I knew the crazies would be out on Monday so I waited...

If something was worth getting...I will get it. This was set-up for bigger mini's.

Um... I actually didn't go into the comic shop this week at all. I don't read Captain America, and the only books I wanted to get are (a) on my pull list, and (b) stuff I can wait for until next week.

*ducks*

Heck no; I like James Barnes as Cap and feel that this focus on reviving Steve discredits all the time spent on pushing Barnes past his Bucky and Winter Soldier personas.

Also, a $3+ price tag on a non-Image book (at least with Image I know won't be getting event fatigue, retcons of doom, and ads in the middle of my book, plus more actual content is included if the title's $3+) doesn't sit well with me.
