Cover of the Week - The Marvels Project & Uncanny X-Men

This latest iteration of the Cover of The Week might as well be called "Variant of the Week" as Ryan, Kirk, and myself chose our favorites, and they all happen to be variants. Hit the jump to see which covers take the accolades this week.

Ryan L's Cover of the Week - The Marvels Project #7 (Parel Variant)

Ryan L.: This cover simply jumped out at me. It's dynamic and the angle is fantastically chosen. What would normally be a pretty silly costume looks menacing for all of the business cropped out because of the zoom used to effect but not for laziness. The sparks add a fancy touch and in the end who doesn't like seeing someone get all T-Rex on an electrical fence and tear it up?

Matt and Kirk's Cover of the Week - Uncanny X-Men #522 (Variant)

Matt: This is a pretty clever reference, and it's executed perfectly by Mark Brooks. A lesser artist would have just skipped the reflection of the bullet, the folding in the clothes, or the background, but Brooks goes all the way, and on top of that renders a perfect depiction of Kitty Pryde. Get this man into one of the X-titles!

Kirk: I'm also going to take this as my pick of the week.  I'm not usually a huge fan of homages, as I think they can be a bit lazy and rely entirely on nostalgia in most cases, but sometimes you just have to learn to love the bomb. It also helps that  this is an extremely well done homage that is also relevant to the issue at hand.

Runners-Up: Batman: Streets of Gotham #10, Green Lantern #52 Northlanders #26

Next, I expect to see Xavier as Dr. Strangelove.

And who is that guy? Reminds me of Colussus. Is he metallic or just grey? Hard to tell.

That's Destroyer - he actually wears green (as far as I can remember).

Yeah, that's Destroyer, a golden age character that recently had his own MAX mini.

And yes, he does kind of look like Colossus there, doesn't he?
