Comic Book Moments of the Week for 04/07/10

Welcome to another edition of Moments of the Week, where we round up the most notable, important or groan worthy moments from this week's dose of comics. A lot of moments from S.H.I.E.L.D. (and I could have put a lot more!), but also from books like Batman And Robin, Uncanny X-Men, and many more! Hit the jump to see them all.

Batman and Robin #11

I remember the mansion being pretty destroyed during No Man's Land, pretty much sinking completely, but I guess this settles the question of how the hidden "Bat-acombs" survived the earthquake. Also, time travel.

This has been a popular theory for many fans, but I doubt that Morrison would be going in that direction, considering there's a whole six issue mini series about The Return of Bruce Wayne.

Remember that spine transplant that Damian got a couple of issues ago? Yeah, it works as a controlling device. Who's controlling it? None other than Deathstroke.

Cable (and Deadpool) #25

Looks like Deadpool has been playing some Prototype, huh? To give some context, he's wearing the carcass of a Predator X to fool the sentinel to target him, allowing Cable to escape.

Invincible Returns #1

It looks like Freddie Mercury is the leader of the Viltrumites.

Marvel Zombies 5 #1

Oh, Machine Man, never change. And you know who his associate is?

Howard the Duck! Making his triumphant return to comics, now that Marvel is owned by Disney, can we have a Howard/Donald crossover?

Red Robin #11

Damian knows that Prudence belongs to the League of Assassins, hence the hostility. "Filthy Bastard Midget" sounds like an awesome name for a metal band.

S.H.I.E.L.D. #1

Couple of interesting things here. First, note that Imhotep here has both a shield and a spear. In the background, you can see both Apocalypse and the avatar of Konshu, basically the Egyptian Moon Knight. The "This is not how the world ends" becomes a recurring phrase throughout the book. Take notes, there will be a quiz later!

Just an awesome splash page by the creative team of Dustin Weaver and Christine Strain. Maybe it's just me, but this pose reminds me a lot of this scene from Steranko's Cap run.

The spear mentioned above comes back. This is also a cool scene because Hickman established in Secret Warriors that HYDRA called themselves "the spear", and that they are based off Asia.

This is Galileo vs. Galactus. Damn, I love this comic.

Back in the "present day", we are introduced to The Night Machine. There's something very creepy about his design and the way he moves around.

Spider-Man: Fever #1

There is nothing in this page that makes any sense.

Superman: Secret Origin #5

This image cracked me up. Clark Kent's creepy smile will probably haunt my dreams though.

Ultimate Comic X #2

Ladies, do not try this post at home. It is physically impossible.

So apparently the black haired girl is Jean Grey hiding from the rest of the world that hates and fears her.

Uncanny X-Men #523

Hope looking at hair products. She's Jean Grey alright.

So can Nightcrawler go and join S.W.O.R.D.? That didn't seem to work out too well for Beast, but it would be a much better fate than getting killed in Second Coming.

And Nightcrawler is totally going to die. This scene is kind of like being the guy in a war movie that says "I'm going to marry my high school sweetheart once I get back to the States." He is probably going to end up dying in the worst possible way.

Wolverine: Weapon X #12

That's Bucky up there, declaring his love of Russian food. Wait until Fox News learns that the new Cap is a dirty commie!

This arc of Weapon X is set in a future, kind of like Days of Future Past, and Wolverine is an old man that has somehow lost both of his arms. The funniest thing from this image? Look at the little pouches Logan has. How does he take out what's inside of them?! This is the kind of dark humor that Jason Aaron is so good at, although it may have been Ron Garney throwing in the visual gag.

This is an interesting moment. The Deathloks are sent from the future to kill future rebels (like in Terminator), and the lady is the leader of them. For some reason, one of them hesitates, and the lady ends up being saved by a kid that is also seen being a rebel in the future.

World War Hulks #1

Bob (Agent of HYDRA) has gotten a new job at AIM. I wonder if he will meet with Bill, the other Agent of AIM.

So Art Adams got a bit Liefildian both on the cover and insides, huh?

Great Clark Kent moment. I love it when he's written as a mix of mild-mannered Clark and "Man of Steel" Clark.

Loeb revealing who a character really is straight away? That's unheard of! also further proof of why I like Ultimate X

I see that now that Marvel is owned by Disney, they've gone back to Howard's original look.

My favorite snark I've heard was someone saying that Night Machine is really Phantom Limb

I wasn't thrilled by the Marvel Zombies 5 #1 issue. I loved the use of past classic western comic characters, but is was a buzz kill to see Howard the duck. He has no place in a zombie comic. I think that Zombie comics need to be more serious and, of course, need to have more killing and shooting. If Howard is an indication of things to come, I am out. My full review is posted at Thanks for letting me shed my opinion and you have good insight into your postings...

Howard the Duck? I was ready to walk away from Marvel Zombies, but now I've been suckered right back in. Also, I refuse to look at the images from SHIELD. You cant make me do it!

Are you avoiding SHIELD spoilers? Or are you trying to avoid to buy another series?

Because either way, you are not going to like what I am about to post in a couple of minutes :)

I just saw your post Matt. I hate you lol. I'm getting it on Wednesday, just gotta wait two days. I will prevail!

lol and the Matt torture of Brandon continues...

At least I was able to control myself in Ryan's rankings and not give away the surprise in MZ5 but you KNOW just by that image of Howard in cowboy gear is going to get more issue buys up...

So Morrison is stealing plot ideas from the Teen Titans cartoon now? (Terra being controlled by Slade when she disobeyed orders)...

That art page from Fever looks like an insane Chutes and Ladders game...
