Image Round-Up - August 14th 2013

The Image Round Up column aims to get some words down on Image Comics book published for the week. This weeks reviews are handled by William Tournas and Hansel Moreno. They'll be dropping non-spoilery reviews the day before the books are available so you can best make up your mind on what to buy tomorrow. We offer this service because Image has been putting out some amazing content lately and it will be nice to shine a light on every single title they produce. This week our intrepid team looks at Saga #13 and The Walking Dead #13.

This week the team decided Saga #13 is COVER OF THE WEEK! It is the prettiest! Read William's preview for more info!

The reviews are graded according to the following scale:

Must Read. -- Do not miss this hot piece of comic action!
Buy It. -- For memories sake.
Check It. -- This is a toss up. Up to you really.
Byrne It. (skim it on the rack). -- Look at it but don't leave with it.
Avoid It. -- Steer clear.

Saga #13

story BRIAN K. VAUGHAN
art / cover  FIONA STAPLES

William TournasSaga returns this week with issue #13 after 4 months off. 4 months in which we all have been hanging to see what happens to next in this much loved series.

The first issue in this next story arc doesn't miss a beat, as new characters are introduced and interesting ground work is laid out for the future of characters we already know. As done with previous issues, this one is set in the past and shows events leading up to the cliffhanger of issue #12.

As I've mentioned before Brian K Vaughan's work on his characters is what continues to draw me to this series. Just when I have a character or an aspect of the ongoing story figured out, more layers are revealed making me throw everything out the window and going along for the ride.

Fiona Staples artwork continues to amaze me. There is something about her art that makes each individual panel breathtaking among all the others. The colour work is gorgeous, as both characters and the background behind them seem to stand out individually.

Issue #13 of Saga adds another part to this ongoing tapestry of masterpiece in story telling.

Must Read

The Walking Dead #113

story Robert Kirkman
art / cover  Charlie Adlard and Cliff Rathburn
letterer Rus Wooton

Hansel Moreno: The very first page of this issue put me on the edge of my seat. Hats off to Charlie Adlard and Cliff Rathburn for the stellar work.

I'm in too deep to give you a fair review. Turning every page was a pain. Bullets are flying, chaos is breaking out. It is a god damn war.

Adlard and Kirkman are just twisting the knife in your gut at this point.

I stepped away from The Walking Dead at issue 107 and read up until 113 in one sitting.

Highly recommended.

Just as I can't take the wait any longer we have that double shipping to look forward to. This isn't a review, this is a great place to plan a support group for the victims of the comic. Please savor this issue on your own time. If you are new to the series, pick up the first trade and a box of tissues. If you love/hate the show, hey, try this book out.

As for me, I'm going to sit here in the dark until I can get my grubby hands on the next issue. KIIIRRRRRRRRKMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
