Comic Book Moments of the Week for 11/27/13

It's a time for thanks, bowling over people at stores for the newest toy and deal, and for another edition of  Moments of the Week. Today we'll take a look at Rick Remender's new series Black Science, along with some big moments of his in Uncanny Avengers, Infinity ends the latest Marvel event, Superman sees a sacrifice, and Avengers Arena ends the current "season." Always more after the jump, so let's begin.

Avengers Arena #18

Reptil sacrifices himself to save the others, and Death Locket breaks free of Katy's hold, with only one way to stop her:

The madness ends, but then the survivors think about what happened over the past month:

So they choose silence, but there's someone who knows the truth:

So there we go, the deaths seemed to be lasting ones, and from future solicits the survivors go undercover and join the Masters of Evil.

Black Science #1

Follow the perils of Grant McKay as he tries to avoid being killed by frog people and fish people in a different world, losing allies along the way. All in the name of science.

Right off the bat, things go from bad to worse. If you've read other Remender works, this is much in the same vein, and Scalera's art works from the natural to the tech stuff.

Damian: Son of Batman #2

It turns out the Batman who died last issue was actually Dick, and Bruce didn't like Damian's quest for vengeance.

Gordon, helping out in a different way.

Hawkeye #14

In California the villains stick to stealing flowers. I'm glad the bellboy finally gave a natural response to being shot with an arrow. It's an arrow, people!

Kate records herself being run over and gets the guy arrested, retrieving the orchid for the wedding, and all is good, right?

Dun Dun Dunnnn

Indestructible Hulk #16

Bruce is so ticked with his science friends getting the tech jump on him he asks SHIELD to let him smash. So of course they won't let him. An invisible cloak later into an Aztec pyramid and he gets his wish:

Infinity #6

Lockjaw is lovable, but also deadly. Back on Earth the Avengers fight Thanos and his minions while Thane looks on:

So, the big takeaways: terrigan mists spread all throughout Earth, Thanos and Proxima Midnight are placed in the Illuminati's secret lair that the other Avengers still don't know about, the Kree are readying for war, Annihilus has taken over a planet in our dimension, and the Skrulls have united around Kl'rt. Look to New Avengers for another recap:

New Avengers #12

They've been fighting the minor leagues, apparently.

Saga #16

Uh oh.

Fight, fight, fight.

Scarlet Spider #24

Kaine can't even quit the right way. After being intimate with Annabelle, Wally breaks into his suite and tries to place the former Scarlet Spider under arrest. Then things get even weirder:

Next issue is the last, who knows what will happen.

Superior Spider-Man #22

Ominous labcoats aside, it seems Peter's doing well. And then Venom shows up to take out the Crime Master:

Villain franchises, it can work.

Superman #25

As their travels in time come to a close, Superboy sacrifices himself to save innocents, and at the same time Superman traps H'el in the center of Krypton which keeps it from exploding, possibly keeping it still alive out there in the present.

Uncanny Avengers #14

Rogue goes against Wolverine's wishes and kills Wanda in the middle of her plan to take care of the Apocalypse Twins, but that's not all that happens:

So there we go, three heroes are now dead. But this is a series doing longstanding story about time travel, they'll be back. Two of them are going to be in upcoming movies.

Maybe I missed something but...Reptil isn't dead, he's show being pulled out of the water.

I'm liking the Damian mini-series.

Thanos will be up and at 'em in time for his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut.

New Avengers is like Dragon Ball Z. They defeat the Saiyans, turns out there's a bigger threat in the form of Frieza. They defeat Frieza, then Adroids and Cell show up. They defeat Cell, and then Majin Buu shows up.

Scarlet Spider will be appearing in the New Warriors ongoing, but it's still disappointing that his own title is ending.

Although I think it's stupid that Wanda gets a pass on what she did during House of M (while Cyclops is still held accountable for AVX), Rogue really was blinded by her anger and was just looking for an excuse to take her out. But I'm sure these deaths won't last long.

So Superboy is dead and the future son of Superman is out there with the Titans. Wonder if our clone will come back some how, or if the future version will somehow replace him?

I apologize for my ignorance, but what is happening with marvel universe right now?
Why does not some stories affect the others? The avengers left the planet but some of them were together in Uncanny avengers. The x-men didn´t seem to notice the fact that Thanos was invading earth. Is everything separate?

C'mon Anonymous, you know better than that. You know how comic book crossovers work, sometimes what's taking place during the crossover will not be reflected in related comics until after the event is over. That's why Spider-Man and Wolverine can be in so many books at the same time. Or why the Justice League heroes are still present in their own titles, when they're supposed to be "dead" during the Forever Evil event. It's just the nature of comics.
